To keep visitors coming back to your site often, it is vital to keep it fresh and up to date.  You also may have new products, schedules, parts lists, catalog items, and calendars that need to be periodically updated.  A site that is out of date or has old information is of little use to the internet world.  We use the internet to get the latest news, sports scores, stock market quotes.  What use is "day-old news"?  Probably the same as "month-old bread".  You need to keep that mindset when considering the "freshness" your website's content.
